Roque Nublo Climbing Crag
Roque Nublo is one of the most iconic climbing spots in Gran Canaria and one of the island’s most recognisable natural landmarks. Rising dramatically above the central mountains, it offers a very different kind of climbing experience from many other crags on the island, combining volcanic scenery, historical significance and a small selection of memorable sport routes on an unmistakable formation.
If you want to approach this area with better planning and local support, you can organise a guided climbing experience in Gran Canaria. That can be especially helpful at Roque Nublo, where route choice, exposure and overall mountain logistics matter more than at a more conventional roadside crag.
Only sport routes have been included in these topos

North
The north side includes some of the best-known documented sport lines on the formation, ranging from easier terrain to more demanding climbing. It is one of the faces that gives Roque Nublo its reputation as a unique objective within climbing in Gran Canaria.

| 1.- ? | V | 3 bolts, no anchor |
| 2.- Pumuky | V | Up the face and then follow the ridge |
| 3.- Nobody | V+ | 3 bolts, anchor on the ridge |
| 4.- Metallica | 7b+ | |
| 5.- Classica | 6a+ | |
| 6.- Speed | 6b+ | |
| 10.- Alemana | 6b+ | 1 long pitch and 3 short ones. Over 20 bolts and rings, though about 15 are enough. I rappel 65 m. |
| 11.- Vía del aleman | 7b+ | It joins Alemana about three quarters of the way up the first pitch |
South
The south side adds more routes on generally shorter terrain, with a mix of easier grades and a few more technical lines. Together with the north face, it gives Roque Nublo a small but very distinctive selection of sport climbing routes.

| 1.- ? | V | |
| 2.- Maus | IV | |
| 3.- Girls | 6a+ | |
| 4.- Spider | 7a | |
| 5.- Life is life | 6b+ | |
| 6.- Teamwork | 6b | The second bolt is very far from the first. Be careful. |
| 7.- Blick Noch | 6c+ | Bolts are quite far apart. Be very careful. |
A historic climbing landmark in Gran Canaria
Roque Nublo has a long and important place in the climbing history of Gran Canaria. Over the decades, it has drawn both local and visiting climbers who were attracted by the challenge and symbolism of the formation. More than just another crag, it is one of the island’s true climbing landmarks.
Some of the climbers and groups who contributed to the development of these routes include George Wolfsmitt, Herman Ranschert, Hans Langembacher, Agustín Fuentes, Salvador San Gines, Juan Cano, Juan Carlos Arocha, Juan Aguilar, José Alcántara, Francisco Quintana, GEC Club, ENAM Club and others.
